What are we living for?

Before I went to Colorado a few months ago, I was asked the question of ‘what am I living for’.
There is nothing like a quiet mountain peak to sit and ruminate over a question like that.
And there is nothing like returning from a trip like that to be faced with ongoing circumstances, which to this day continues to put life in to perspective:
What are we living for, and whose life are we living?
Much of the time we living through the lens of another; it is common that from time to time we all have a level of self-consciousness about what another person may think, but when the perception of what another person may be thinking begin to govern us, we begin to live through the life of another person and not a life of ourselves.
Not until we begin to live life through OUR own lens, being authentically ourselves, can be truly begin to consider the question of what we live for.
Are we living to work, or are we working to live?
Are we living for achievement, recognition or happiness?
Are we living for knowledge, for growth or gain?
Are we living for the big moments, or the memories that make the moments big?
Are we living to find a balance of our wants and needs?
Are we living to balance out our wants and needs?
For me, I live for many of those things, but at the core I want to be living for what makes me happy, what gives me safety, what provides me with security and what keeps me curious; horses and more do just that.
Is asking “what are we living for” a question that really needs an answer, or is it simply enough to enjoy the journey and find our way?
